The Heat Pump Ready programme supports 35 projects across 2 streams: High-density deployment and Optimised solutions development.

Thermly Distress Diagnostics

  • Lead organisation: Thermly
  • Heat Pump Ready grant value: £518,362
  • Project partner: Lendology

Project Overview

The Thermly Distress Diagnostics project aims to develop data analytics capability, intelligence, and associated web-based software to identify with relative certainty when households will need a heating system replacement. The goal is to prevent situations of ‘distress’ that currently hinders households from transitioning to more sustainable heating systems like heat pumps.

Additionally, the project will explore a business model for installing temporary heating systems for households in distress, allowing them time to make more sustainable decisions.

Thermly intends to study the technical drivers of distress situations in detail, understand triggers and impacts, and analyse human behaviour and attitudes towards heating system transition, and build the software that overcomes these barriers to heat pump adoption using predictive analytic techniques and machine learning.
